A few notes:

Raised over $10,000 for renovation of the Adelphi, which we nearly completed just before the demolition.

Raised a lot more for the purchase of the Adelphi, but it was sold to developer Chad Zuric's corporation instead.

For what it's worth--and I know you attempt to immunize against this in your 'About' section--posts like this really reflect poorly on you and the community; perhaps worse than they make the Alderman look. Community events, alerts, and well-spoken concerns are an excellent addition to the 'blogosphere' and I'm thankful that you use your site as an outlet for them. (Not at all in his defense,) Your railing against the Alderman in tasteless, poorly-spoken, arrogant ways just makes you two (and the community which you've chosen to represent) look like a bunch of pompous whiners.

That said, did you pick up the trash after your exposé photos were taken, or is your desire to 'make a difference' in the neighborhood limited to posting pictures on your website? I find it a shame that litter ends up on the ground, and I do what I can to pick it up. I never thought there was a high-level political negligence conspiracy behind it.

I trust your next campaign will be against the pizza and Chinese food places in the area for leaving all of those menus stuck in doors, fences, and yes--gasp--bushes. Or are they not politically connected enough to deserve a railing-against? Also, the church yard sales have it coming; those flyers have been taped to the mailboxes too long and we won't stand for it anymore!

Keep up the *GOOD* work, and ditch the crap. Please.

Of course that assumes that you think nuclear war doesn't have any bright sides. Do you think we should continue a quiet arms race with the worlds second largest nuclear arsenal? We'll produce more warheads, but what the hell do we need more for!?!
I seem to remember Reagan, both Bushes and Nixon having direct diplomatic meetings with Russian heads of state. What exactly do you think the American head of state should be doing internationally– just invading countries and pardoning turkeys?

Read up on our Post Office. It's not a private company and therefore cannot have private property. While it may not be legal for Moore or anyone else to tape, glue, paperclip or otherwise attach anything to Post Office property, you need to get your facts straight. Opinions based upon dubious facts are not opinions, but delusions.

The USPS is an "independent establishment of the executive branch of the Government of the United States," (39 U.S.C. § 201). Talk to Joe Friday about facts, you could learn a thing or two.

While you're out checking facts, why don't you look into modern recycling methods. Recycling services provided by waste haulers throughout Chicagoland have been collecting glossy paper for years.

There is plenty of reason to investigate each alderman and the mayor. However, being under investigation does not equal being guilty.

Without a doubt Joe Moore is a better Alderman than he was during his previous term. While I do not agree with all his decisions (including a 3 piece suit on a 95 degree day), his openness, visibility and energy have shown me that I am better represented in the city council than people in at least 30 other wards. I have lived and worked in neighborhoods of the city where the council representative was little more than a name on the ballot and another slot on the city payroll.

On a daily basis I read this and several other RP blogs for news and entertainment. Accountability in public officials is essential and the substantive issues I read about on this blog are what keep me coming back. Personality attacks and blaming Joe for each and every wrong that occurs in the neighborhood only turns into so much white noise.

I think the Alderman has been better lately because the last aldermanic election showed him and his administration that they must be more reactive to the entire community and the real issues they have. Close elections and close inspection of the actions of elected officials is exactly what accountability looks like. Any improvement in representation and administration is due to real dialogue and competition among constituents. In the same way that Joe Moore has been elected to fill a certain role as lightning rod and representative for us, we must keep up that accountability among ourselves and take responsibility for the issues that are too large or small for one elected official.

Quite frankly, Toni and Bill, I think on Saturday, after his stint at the Gateway (which ended at noon), Joe may have done a bit of 'attitude adjustment' in order to prepare for his 'hissy fit' displayed at the IVI-IPO fundraiser at the Metropolitan Club Saturday evening. Where he spewed the 'f-bomb' at organizers of the event.

Had he shown up at Willye B. Whiye Park in that state of mind, I am certain the police officer in attendance would have hauled Joe's sorry arse away very quickly.

And, Toni, I don't think Joe comprehends 'shame'. If he does not match the $2,400+ that was raised, what should be done, seeing that would allow another 11 or so children to attend camp, which begins this morning?

Joe does not care about anyone but JOE! The overnight parking money has a pay-off for him, I am certain. For two years, I have studied this man(?), researched him heavily over the past year, and found nothing but a greedy SCHMUCK! BLOATED and GREEDY, that's about right.

But the times, as Dylan sang forty or so years ago, "THEY ARE A-CHANGIN'". Time for the Alder-Joker to go away--is that possible, since he's never really been here, anyway?

Sorry, libby, to only re-report what was written.

As you wrote on 'the Broken Heart', where you described this as 'a smallish affair' attended by those not particularly well-to-do, I can only wonder why Joe bothered to attend.

The only reasonI can think is that he needed 'face time' with the governor, who I hear is indeed a very nice man, but not an inspired orator. No problem there.

The fact is, Joe Moore can find no 'niche' for himself--Obama wrote him off. He does not desire to be 'just' an alderman--he wants more power than that office can provide.

He most assuredly is NOT US Senate material. Rumor has it he may try to replace his mentor, David Orr, as County Clerk.

But the problem, libby, is no one seems to want Joe Moore, especially when he behaves so abominally in public.

If he had a conscience, he WOULD publicly apologize to the IVI-IPO. I feel, however, there's very little chance of that happening, because there is NO MONEY in doing that.

Just the way Joe Moore and his thugs operate.

I was there last night. The Alderman didn't yell at the Governor. He yelled at the event's sponsors who also happen to be (to have been?) long time friends. It was ugly any way you cut it. And no, IVI-IPO is unlikely to call for an apology. They are not Joe's parents.

Please people, don't let it deter you that the blood found in the park wasn't the result of a violent offense like everyone would hope!

May I ask, 7am or 7pm? Both lousy times to "make a difference" and to check for street lights that are out, since the thugs are sleeping and the lights are probably out anyway...

I used to love those Police Academy movies- didn't they have one about "citizens on patrol"? It was so fucking hilarious how stupid they were!

You sound like you have a very open mind. I would suggest reading her blog more carefully. She may not spout hate to you personally, but there is anger in every post, in case you missed the bright colors, font changes, italics and boldface.

It seems nearly everyone in this oddball place is obsessed with race. My one on one conversations with Grammar Gal haven't been spiced with hate or racism Moon.

The biggest hurdle to overcome in RP is the denial of any realities -whether its the drugs/gangs or the children having children who drag the little ones by the arm and yell at them. Many of these little ones grow up thinking that guns and drugs are 'normal'.

Its a cycle, that to date, the reverends, NFP's and liberals haven't effectively dealt with.

Well Moon – I live here and if certain politicos hadn’t perpetuated the great divide perhaps more people of color would feel safe to join these walks.

This area has been plagued with gangs and drugs for years and many people of color are afraid of being targeted if they walk. We went through this years ago with a certain lawyer-blogger with his pointy finger drivel.

Maybe the ward office could promote these walks in support of the 24th? Did I miss that email blast? No – NOH is off the radar except on election years.

I love how “diverse” (as shown in meeting photo) equals “black people present”, while a “crowd” (scene outside) with no other descriptor is needed if the crowd appears to be primarily white.

I am so fucking impressed with the police that I see EVERY NIGHT ON HOWARD STREET when I drive past patrolling the area and making arrests. But you all don’t know that because it’s all about the blog roll and the CAPS meeting.

Move in and THEN state your opinion! Can’t get past that plasma and a comfy couch, but sooooo much to talk about!

No other pics of Howard Street since you spend entire days scoping the area? The new Howard Street initiative has been in effect for a while, did something special happen today?

Old habits die hard and it's a bitch when some so critical have a daddy for a cop- saves money when pops bails you out and does you favors. Friends in high places to make you look tall. The Touhy Park area is spotty. One new thing: the Park has recently been comandeered by the Chicago Math and Science Academy since they are not being provided with their own athletic grounds. It's good for the school & Alderman Moore, who gets to soon cut another ribbon. However, recreational space is getting condensed–not something that bodes well for neighborhood safety & peace.

The demolition of the Adelphi Theater was a horrible tragedy and a sad loss to the Rogers Park community.

What was left is a dangerous hole in the ground where gangbangers and prostitutes do their business.

The fencing is unsecure and the property is uncared for.

The Adelphi Theater was a true beauty. The Adelphi Hole is a public safety hazard.
